Russia's home grounds are Otkrytie Arena, Central Dynamo Stadium (VTB Arena), VEB Arena, Luzhniki Stadium and Lokomotiv Stadium (all in Moscow), Petrovsky Stadium in St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad Stadium, Nizhniy Novgorod Stadium, Mordovia Arena (Saransk), "Fisht" (Sochi).

Russia qualified for three World Cups (1994, 2002, 2014), and they have automatically qualified for 2018 as hosts. They have also qualified for five European Championships (1996, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016). Reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2008 marks the only time that they passed the group stages of a major tournament, excluding the record of the Soviet Union national team, of which Russia is the successor.

The coach of the Russian national team is Stanislav Cherchesov.
